In early 2025, a group of dedicated and visionary professional engineers came together with a shared mission to establish a professional engineering organization devoted to the advancement of their profession, the service of nation, and the sustainable development of their country.

Afghanistan Engineers Council is founded with the goal of promoting engineering excellence, fostering innovation, supporting professional development, and empowering the next generation of engineers. The founding members envisioned a platform where engineers from all disciplines could unite to address national challenges, influence policy, and ensure that engineering solutions play a key role in building a more prosperous and resilient future for Afghanistan.

The AEC was founded on the principle and a steadfast commitment core values that emphasize integrity, excellence, unity, professional development, innovation, collaboration, and sustainability. aiming to raise the standards of engineering practice, promote ethical responsibility, and inspire a culture of excellence across all engineering and technical fields. Recognizing the vital role that engineering plays in economic growth, infrastructure development, and technological progress, the founding members envisioned an inclusive platform that would unite engineers from across Afghanistan and beyond. Afghanistan Engineers Council objectives included supporting capacity building through technical education and training, creating opportunities for research and innovation, seeking standard career opportunities, engaging in strategic partnerships with international institutions, and contributing expert knowledge to national planning and policy-making. Through conferences, workshops, certification programs, and mentorship initiatives, the organization seeks to empower young engineers, enhance professional skills, and ensure that Afghanistan’s engineering sector becomes a driving force in shaping a sustainable, resilient, and globally connected future.

Over the past 25 years, Afghanistan has experienced gradual progress in industrialization and technology, though it continues to face several structural and developmental challenges. Limited infrastructure, inconsistent access to electricity, and gaps in engineering (technical) education and training have slowed the pace of industrial growth. While sectors such as telecommunications and small-scale manufacturing have shown notable development, broader industrial advancement requires more investment in innovation, sustainable energy, and skilled labor. The rise of a young, tech-savvy population and increasing interest in entrepreneurship and technology offer promising potential. With continued focus on education, digital infrastructure, and regional cooperation, Afghanistan can steadily strengthen its role in the global technology and industrial landscape.

The Afghanistan Engineers Council (AEC) actively promotes partnerships not only within engineering teams but also with educational institutions, government agencies, and private sector entities to broaden learning opportunities and enhance impact. AEC is committed to establishing collaborations with global engineering organizations to facilitate knowledge sharing, joint research, and innovative projects, while encouraging participation in international exchanges, internships, and conferences. The Council supports and motivates engineers to contribute to both theoretical and practical advancements in the engineering field through publications, lectures, seminars, field visits, and the exchange of information with counterpart institutions in Afghanistan and worldwide. Furthermore, AEC fosters scientific and technical cooperation among engineers within Afghanistan and across the globe, partnering with academic institutions to provide scholarships, certification programs, and joint training initiatives.

AEC since its inception, has collaborated closely with Afghan engineers and engineering entities across the public and private sectors. Guided by its mission to enhance the technical and leadership competencies of Afghan engineers and organizations, AEC consistently contributing to the economic and social development of Afghan societies. Operating both nationally and internationally, AEC has established a robust network of Afghan engineering professionals nationwide and outside the country. Our commitment is to cultivate expertise, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote sustainable growth.

AEC supports a broad range of engineering disciplines, including but not limited to Civil (Construction), Mechanical, Electrical (Energy), Industrial, Agricultural, Mining, Architectural, Chemical, Aeronautical, Technology, Transport, Engineering Management and Leadership and other disciplines. With offices strategically situated across Afghanistan and abroad, AEC fosters a professional environment that emphasizes excellence, integrity, and continuous progress toward achieving its goals.
The organizational structure of AEC is consisting of Engineering Research and Training, Information Technology, Communications and International affairs, Finance, Planning and Projects, Culture and Publication, Member and Volunteers committees.

Industrializing Afghanistan in the context of global engineering challenges requires a strategic focus on both opportunities and challenges that align with broader global engineering challenges. As Afghanistan works to build its industrial base, it must address key engineering challenges such as sustainable energy production, water resource management, resilient infrastructure, mining sources and efficient transportation systems. Afghanistan is endowed with a wealth of untapped mineral resources that hold significant potential for contributing to the country’s economic development.
These challenges mirror faced worldwide, especially in developing regions. Collaboration with global engineering communities, investment in STEM education, and the use of emerging technologies like energy technology, education tech, automation and digital manufacturing can help Afghanistan not only industrialize effectively but also contribute innovative approaches to shared global engineering goals.

As the world faces critical issues such as climate change, resource scarcity, and urbanization, Afghanistan’s path to industrial growth must integrate modern engineering solutions that promote environmental responsibility and resilience. Developing engineering sectors can help address both national needs and contribute to solving broader global challenges. With its young and increasingly educated population, Afghanistan has the potential to become a regional hub for innovation if supported by strong policy, investment in technology, and international collaboration in engineering and technical fields.
